Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed to treat chronic sinusitis and other sinus problems. FESS opens the natural drainage pathways of the sinuses, improving aeration and mucus drainage. This method is performed using nasal endoscopes and thin surgical instruments.
Advantages of FESS:
Precision and Control: Thanks to endoscopes, the surgeon can see the internal structure of the sinuses in detail and treat problem areas with precision.
Minimally Invasive: Provides less tissue damage and a faster recovery time compared to traditional surgical methods.
Less Pain and Bleeding: Minimally invasive techniques reduce the risk of postoperative pain and bleeding.
Who is it Suitable For?
FESS is suitable for patients who have recurring problems due to sinus polyps, anatomical abnormalities or sinus infections when drug therapy is inadequate in the treatment of chronic sinusitis.
Surgical Process:
FESS is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-2 hours. During surgery, the surgeon widens the natural openings of the sinuses by entering through the nostrils. This relieves congestion and helps the sinuses regain their normal function.
Recovery:
There may be mild swelling and discomfort in the nose after surgery. Most patients can return to normal activities within a few days. Full recovery can take several weeks, and it is important to follow your surgeon's recommendations during this time.
